The past two weeks fifth-grade students at School Lane Charter School have been studying the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a service-learning project, the students took part in a school-wide fundraiser to help the community ensure some basic human rights are met.
The fifth-grade students organized and ran a school-wide food drive. With the donated food, including turkey donated from a nearby food market, students prepared over 300 Thanksgiving dinners for AID for Friends Organization (Meals on Wheels). In addition, the fifth-grade alone raised over $900.00 to donate to two separate local charities, AID for Friends Organization and Helen’s Angels.
