Global Leadership Academy West Celebrates Kindergarten Scholars with African Traditions at Annual Move-Up/Rites of Passage Ceremony
Cultural celebration honors young scholars’ transition to their next academic chapter, showcasing leadership and heritage.

Kindergarten Move-Up/Rites of Passage Ceremony under African traditions, followed by the 2nd Grade Move-Up Ceremony. These events celebrate scholars’ academic growth and readiness to transition from the K-2 Rising Stars Academy to the 3-5 Legendary Leaders Academy.

EVENT DETAILS:
GLA-West’s Kindergarten Move-Up/Rites of Passage Ceremony blends academic achievement with cultural pride, rooted in African traditions. Scholars will be celebrated through symbolic rituals, performances, and storytelling that honor their heritage and personal growth. The event underscores GLA’s mission to cultivate “future leaders of the world” by stimulating global awareness and leadership from an early age.
Following the kindergarten celebration, 2nd grade scholars will similarly mark their transition, highlighting their preparedness for advanced studies in the Legendary Leaders Academy.

Global Leadership Academy serves 1,300 K-8 students across its West and Southwest Philadelphia campuses. Its unique curriculum includes:
- Local to Global Excursions: From kindergarten visits to the Liberty Bell to 8th-grade international trips (e.g., Ghana, China)
- Civil Rights & History Immersion: Civil Rights tours in the South (Selma, Atlanta) and Underground Railroad expeditions
- Leadership Development: Prepares scholars to engage with global communities and historic narratives
