JYK Discovery Charter School Students Depart for Educational Trip to Greece on April 30
PHILADELPHIA, PA – JYK Discovery Charter School will send a group of 8th-grade students on an educational trip to Greece departing Thursday, April 30. Media are invited to capture footage and interview students and staff as they depart for the airport, communicate with the students online while they are in Greece, and upon their return for a reflection story.

What
JYK Discovery Charter School 8th-grade students depart for an international educational experience in Greece. Approximately 23 students will participate in the trip.
Discovery’s Greece expedition is part of a broader, experience-based program. On May 24, 5th-grade students will follow the path of the Underground Railroad into Canada, retracing Harriet Tubman’s footsteps and visiting key historical sites that were instrumental in protecting freedom seekers and ending U.S. enslavement. Together, these trips deepen students’ understanding of democracy, freedom, and human rights—both in ancient times and in our own nation’s history.
When (Thursday, April 30):
- 11:30 a.m. – Students and chaperones meet at JYK Discovery Charter School
- 12:30 p.m. – Bus departs school for the airport
Media are encouraged to arrive at the school between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to capture:
- Students boarding the bus
- Natural interactions and visuals of families, students, and staff
- On-site interviews before departure
